For months during the summer of 2024, Jarmarus Brown, an Orange City, Florida police officer, ran his ex-girlfriend’s license plate through the Flock automated license plate reader (ALPR) system lookup database at least 69 times. He searched for the license plate belonging to her mom at least 24 times, and searched for the license plate belonging to her dad at least 15 times. Brown’s searches were happening so often, and were so commonplace, that even one of his colleagues noticed Brown researching his ex-girlfriend’s whereabouts while the law enforcement officers sat in their police cruisers, according to court records obtained by 404 Media.

“While they were sitting there, Officer [Shadrich] King noticed Jarmarus was on the Flock system and a license plate reader image of [Brown’s ex-girlfriend] was on the screen,” a police affidavit about Brown’s behavior obtained by 404 Media reads. “Officer King said he mentioned to Jarmarus that he needed to stop running her vehicle in that system because he could get in trouble. Jarmarus responded saying that he knew that, and he was going to stop.” Flock’s automated license plate readers document every car that drives past them, creating a broad network of people’s movements around the country. Police can then look up license plates to learn where a specific car and, by extension, person, has traveled over time.

Yet her latest project moves beyond traditional opera into something more personal, provocative, and deeply theatrical. The motto of Aeon Opera, the nonprofit organization behind the production, is “You’ve lived it. We sing it.” Stadtmueller’s musical drama was born of her experience presenting legislation to end weather modification and geoengineering, as well as public policy discussions regarding electromagnetic fields associated with cell towers and smart utility meters. The conflict experienced in contemporary society is reflected onstage through themes exploring centralized systems, surveillance, and governance, individual resistance, and differing perspectives among characters, as well as individuals navigating complex societal systems with varying levels of awareness.

Consumer Reports is an independent, nonprofit, ad-free member organization that works side by side with consumers for truth, transparency, and fairness in the marketplace. Together, the organizations decided on the products and substances to test and then compared the amounts detected against daily safety levels established by U.S. and European public health agencies, including the FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and levels of concern identified in peer-reviewed scientific studies. Then, a team of scientists analyzed the resulting data to calculate a “hazard quotient,” or the level below which no adverse health effects would be expected to occur, for each of the substances, taking into account a lifetime of chronic exposure. CR contributed its scientific and investigative expertise and experience working on food safety regulatory issues. The organization also contributed graphics and design to the effort.

From breakfast cereals and sodas to snacks and desserts, food additives have become ubiquitous in the American food supply. These substances are commonly used to enhance taste, texture, shelf life, or appearance, but a growing body of scientific research has raised concerns about the potential health effects of some widely used additives.

Yet many of these substances remain prevalent in the United States, despite being banned or more strictly regulated in Europe and other parts of the world.

A truly bizarre series of events off the coast of Iran today that in my opinion were entirely provoked, if not staged, by the US. It started with multiple news reports that a US Army Apache helicopter had been shot down in the Persian Gulf but the two pilots emerged unscathed. What the hell was an Apache helicopter doing? The AH-64 Apache is a twin-engine attack helicopter primarily designed for anti-armor warfare, close air support, and armed reconnaissance. Apparently it was conducting reconnaissance. The US claims that Iran shot it down, but Iran insists it did no such thing.

I am bothered by the claim it was shot down… If the rocket or bullets had hit the cockpit or damaged the main rotor, the craft would have plunged into the water and the pilots would not have survived. So what happened? Was one of the twin engines damaged but still able to function? Was the rear rotor damaged? Those are the only two scenarios I can imagine that would not have caused a catastrophic crash. Once the helo landed in the water, the pilots had to open the canopy and jump into the water. Hopefully the main rotor — assuming it was intact when the copter hit the water — shattered on impact. Otherwise, the pilots would have been shredded trying to escape.
